An annoyance of our digital era is the tendency of product manufacturers to provide functions simply because it's easy to do once a digital chip is part of a product. An example is the time function. If a product contains a chip, a clock display can often be added at essentially no cost to the product manufacturer, who then brags about an additional function provided by the product. This becomes quite an annoyance at Daylight Savings switchover time, when it's necessary to reset the clock displays in the radio, VGR, microwave oven, coffee maker, cooking range, calculator, answering machine, and so on, ad nauseum.
