Effect of integrated nutrient management on yield sustainability and soil fertility in moth bean in arid region

A field experiment was conducted during 2005 and 2006 on sandy loam soil of arid zone of Rajas than, to study the effect of integrated nutrient management system on the moth bean productivity and soil fertility. A significant increase in growth, yieldattributes and yield of moth bean was noted with each nutrient management treatments as compared to control except seed treatment with PSB. Integration of FYM 2.50 ton along with 10 kg N ha~(-1) through fertilizer and seed inoculation with PSB found superior in maximizing growth, yield attributes and yield of moth bean. The pooled data on seed yield indicated that this treatment gave 8.20 and 45% increase in the seed yield as compared to 20 kg N+40 kg P_2O_5 ha~(-1) and control respectively. The maximum net return of Rs.7208 was also obtained with the combined application of FYM 2.50 ton ha~(-1) along with 10 kg N through fertilizer and seed inoculation with PSB. Benefit: cost ratio was observed highest (1.16) with the application of FYM 1.25 ton along with 15 kg N ha~(-1) through fertilizer and seed inoculation with PSB. However, fertility status of the soil (available N, P, K and organic C) improved maximum with the application of FYM 5 ton ha~(-1) +seed inoculation with PSB followed by FYM 5 ton ha~(-1).
