Cd_(0.8)Zn_(0.2)S pillars were constructed in the interlayer of H_(1-x)Ca_(2-x)La_xNb_3O_(10) (x=0-0.75) by the stepwise intercalation reactions. The height of Cd_(0.8)Zn_(0.2)S pillar was less than 1 nm and the band gap energy of Cd_(0.8)Zn_(0.2)S pillar was slightly larger than that of normal crystalline one. Cd_(0.8)Zn_(0.2)S pillared compounds showed photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution in the presence of sacrificial hole acceptor such as Na_2SO_3 by the band gap irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of Cd_(0.8)Zn_(0.2)S incorporated was superior to that of unsupported one and was improved by doping La~(3+) ion in the host layer. The heterogeneous electron transfer from guest Cd_(0.8)Zn_(0.2)S to host Ca_(2-x)La_xNb_3O_(10) layer seemed to play an important role to enhance the photocatalytic activity.
