EVALUATION OF EFFECTIVE PLANT PRODUCTS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF GROUNDNUT BEETLE, CARYEDON SERRATUS INFESTING STORED GROUNDNUT SEEDS

The effectiveness of various botanicals was tested against groundnut beetle, Caryedon serratus, Oliver, (Bruchidae: Coleoptera) under artificial infestation, in laboratory conditions for one year. The various plant products viz., til oil (Sesamum indicum), karanja (Pongamia glabra) oil, mustard oil (Brassica campestris), nilgiri oil (Eucalyptus sp), palm oil (Areca catechu), Bael (Aegle marmelos) oil, Castor oil (Ricinus communis), Sunflower oil ( Helianthus annus) , neem oil (Azadirachta indica) , citronella oil (Cymbopogon nardus), crown oil (resin of Shorea robusta), Rice bran oil (Oryza sativa), sisso (Dalbergia sisso) oil, camphor oil (Cinnamomum camphora), linseed oil (Linum usitatissamum) , mint oil (Mentha spicata ) and groundnut oil (Arachis hypogea ) were also tested for their bioefficacy. Out of all these products, only nilgiri oil, citronella oil, camphor oil and crown were found to give 100% pod protection for 270 days.
