It is proved that both the Bass cyclic and bicyclic units generate a subgroup of finite index in u(ZS), assuming S is a finite semigroup such that QS is semisimple Artinian and does not contain certain types of simple components. (C) 1996 Academic Press, Inc. [References: 7]
