In the present study, four organic manures were employed of which two comprised vermicomposts (Vermicompost 1- prepared from only paper mill solid waste using worms and Vermicompost 2- prepared from farmyard manure- FYM, and paper mill solid waste in 1:1 ratio using worm culture) and the third and fourth were commercial manures (commercial manure 1: 12.5 kg/ha Buck up; commercial biofertilizer of Ecomax company, with 375 kg/ha of FYM manure; commercial manure 2: 12.5 kg/ha biofertilizer 'Buck Up', with 375 kg/ha, vermicompost), to assess their effect on water quality in cement cisterns. Growth response of fish, Labeo rohita, was measured in all the treatments. Maximum fish growth was in Vermicompost 2, followed by Vermicompost 1, commercial manure 1 and commercial manure 2; whereas control showed the least, thereby implying that vermicomposts are at par with commercial manures and can be used as organic manure in aquaculture for increasing fish production.
