New Methods for the Analysis of Water-Soluble Vitamins in Infant Formula and Adult/Pediatric Nutritionals

Water-soluble vitamins (WSVs) are a group of organic compounds which are essential micronutrients. WSVs could be divided between the B complex group and vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). Within the B complex group, eight vitamins are recognized: vitamins B-1 (thiamin), B-2 (riboflavin), B-3 (niacin or niacinamide), B-5 (pantothenic acid), B-6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, or pyridoxamine), B-7 (biotin), B-9 (folic acid), and B-12 (various cobalamins). This paper reviews the new methods for the analysis of these vitamins, with a focus on infant formula and adult nutritionals.
