Eggs from non-spotted and wild type rainbow trout were fertilized with amago salmon spermatozoa and heat shocked at 26鳦 for 20 min to induce allotriploidy. Growth rate and survival were recorded. Spotless allotriploids were produced from non-spotted rainbow trout eggs and had a faster growth rate than amago salmon (body weight [age not given] 285.6 and 169.1 g respectively). The relationship between the non-spot character and the external appearance of the allotriploids was investigated. Results indicated that spotless allotriploids can be produced by using female dominant homozygotic (hh) non-spotted rainbow trout. When females were heterozygotic (hn) non-spotted, both spotted and spotless allotriploids were produced in approximately equal proportions.
