Phytotoxic and antimicrobial activities of catechin derivatives.

This short article comprises a correction to an earlier article (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2004, 52, 1077). The phrase in the original article stating that '(-)-catechin is as potent as the herbicide 2,4-D when applied to broad leaf plants' was incorrect. It was also stated that (-)-catechin holds the entire phytotoxic property found in the root exudates of Centaura maculosa whereas it has now been found that (+)-catechin also holds some phytotoxic activity. These results do not rule out the possibility that the minimum inhibitory concentrations of the two forms would vary in different plant species.
