An HPLC method and first derivative-second derivative method for the quantitative determination of rasagiline mesylate, an antiparkinson agent, in dosage forms were developed and validated. In the HPLC, the chromatographic separation was achieved with a C-18 column at 30A degrees C and acetonitrile-waterperchloric acid (250: 750: 5, v/v/v) as eluent, at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min using pseudoephedrine HCl as internal standard. Detection was carried out at 210 nm. On the other hand, rasagiline was determined by first derivative spectrophotometric technique by measuring the amplitude at 262, 266, 269 and 272 nm. Also, second derivative technique was performed at 264, 268, 271 and 273 nm. The Lambert-Beer's plots for rasagiline mesylate showed linear relationships within 39-273 mu g/mL for the derivative techniques. The results obtained by the developed procedures were statistically validated. The developed cheap and economical procedures were successfully applied to the determination of the studied drugs in pharmaceutical dosage forms.
