Thin-layer infrared radiation drying of rough rice.

摘要

Four mathematical models were fitted to thin-layer infrared drying data for rough rice. Suitable mathematical expressions to predict the parameters of the selected models were developed. Parameters of 3 models were correlated with radiation intensity and inlet air velocity and found to be independent of initial moisture level. The diffusion model, based on a spherical grain shape, involved the effect of variable initial moisture content but could not describe the drying behaviour. Quality of fit ofthe experimental data by these models was determined by comparing residuals of moisture and root mean square errors (RMSE). Duncan's multiple range test indicated the diffusion model to be significantly different. The exponential model, Page equation and approximation of diffusion model were statistically similar. Because of low residuals of moisture as well as of RMSE values, the Page equation was found most adequate in describing thin-layer infrared radiation drying characteristics of rough rice.
