The study was conducted to compare the metaphase chromosomes G-banded patterns and DNA microsatellite markers of cattle (n=30), sheep (n=10), goat (n=10), fallow deer (Dama dama; n=3), western roe deer (Capreolus capreolus; n=4) and red deer (Cervus elaphus; n=2). Results revealed that comparison of GTG-banded cattle, sheep, goat and fallow deer chromosomes had conformity with G-banding patterns of the fallow deer chromosomes. The autosomes were involved in centric fusion in cattle, giving a metacentric pair in fallow deer. 22 microsatellite markers were amplified using bovine specific primers in the investigated species. It was observed that cross-species amplification showed that microsatellites BM143, CSSM016 and TGLA53 were conserved in all investigated animals. Sequencing confirmed short tandem repeat motives of the TGLA53 marker among selected Bovidae and Cervidae species. There were ~60% microsatellite loci that were successfully amplified using bovine primers in sheep and red deer species, 50% in goat, 55% in western roe deer, and 36% in fallow deer. It is suggested that the genomes of red deer and sheep are more closely related to the bovine genome than genomes of the other studied ruminants on the DNA level.
