Analysing the dynamics of nucleation mode particles in the atmosphere

摘要

Nucleation mode particles are not very important to atmospheric chemistry or physics unless they grow in size up to a few tens of nanometers.The time evolution of a nucleation mode is dependent on complex interactions between the production of new particles by homogeneous or ion-induced nucleation,the growth of these nuclei to larger sizes by condensation and coagulation,their removal by coagulation and deposition,and their atmospheric transportation (Kulmala et al.,2000;Kerminen et #/.,2001;Nilsson et #/.,2001).Accurate simulation of all these processes would require an extremely detailed numerical model,especially what is comes to dealing with the particle number size distribution.Since such models can rarely be applied to real atmospheric problems because of their huge computational demands,simplified ways to treat the system are clearly needed.
