A field experiment was carried out at Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh, (Gujarat) during kharif season from 2002 to 2005 to find out appropriate sowing time and suitable variety of groundnut. The results indicated that the growth and yield attributing characters were observed to be maximum under pre-monsoon sowing (D_x). Significantly higher pod and haulm yields of groundnut were also recorded in first date of sowing followed by D_2 i.e. early monsoon sowing (4-10 June). The optimum thermal unit requirements viz., GDD 244 and HTU11382 were under pre monsoon sowing. The water requirement, WUE, HUE, HTUE were also highest in first date of sowing and lowest in the late sown crop. Among the varieties, GG-20 was found superior with producing higher pod and haulm yields than rest of the varieties.
