摘要

Background Nova Scotia, on the Atlantic coast of Canada, is a peninsula with an area of 55,284 square kilometres (21,300 sq mi) that includes Cape Breton and some 3,800 coastal islands. It is connected to the mainland by the 24 km-wide Isthmus of Chignecto, sharing a border with New Brunswick. As of 2011, the population was 921,727.The provincial capital is in Halifax, established in 1749 by Britain in the fight with France for possession of this part of the New World. By 1755, the answer came clear that it would be Nova Scotia and no longer Acadie. Today half the population livesin the metropolitan area, known as the HRM.
