Top-bar Beekeeping Day with John Vendy

Waking early, I was greeted by one of the best days of this bedraggled Summer. The trip down to Western Galloway was a real pleasure, only hindered by a few pheasant and a deer trying to claim the road in front of me! I was on my way to learn about top-bar hives.Upon arrival we were all made to feel very welcome by Willeke and Tom who had surrendered their home and hives for the day's event. After coffee and "lashings of cake" we settled into the garden with introductions and a round robin of questions. These were wide and varied from swarm control, varroa treatment, transferring a colony from a national hive and the practicalities of managing a top-bar hive. Answers and valuable tips were provided by John Vendy.
