Overwinter Colony Survival for 2011/12

NINE projects were funded in June 2010 by the Insect Pollinators Initiative (IPI). Dr Chris Connolly, DepartmentofNeurosciences, Dundee University, is leading a project looking at the learning capacity and the performance of bees and how this is affected by exposure to pesticides. The Scottish Beekeepers' Association is collaborating by conducting a survey of beekeepers in Scotland, examining the performance and management of their bees over a three year period. It is hoped the distribution of honeybee losses may provide clues regarding toxic pesticides and so inform future research needs.
