To the Editor: In their Commentary, Drs Fogarty and McCally1 argued that the health and safety risks of carbon capture and storage (CCS) have not been considered. We disagree. The authors appear to have ignored existing literature on CCS, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report on Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage,1 which includes quantified risk assessment and characterization of many of the potential health effects discussed in the Commentary.
