THE CHALLENGES for chief nursing officers (CNOs) to ensure that nurses practice in a safe and competent manner are never ending. New research evidence, new products, and new processes contribute significantly to the complexity of safe practice. This column addresses information on developments specific to mediation aides, chemically dependent nurses, nursing job histories, and reporting to the board of nursing. Additional information on all of these regulatory issues can be retrieved from the referenced publications.
