LEGISLATION The Montgomery Advertiser (Alabama) (3/1/2012, Lyman) reported, "A Senate committee approved a bill Wednesday that would allow healthcare providers to refuse to perform abortions and other medical procedures they may find morally objectionable." The bill's sponsor, "Sen Cam Ward, R-Alabaster... said it was intended to protect healthcare employees from termination over those issues." The new measure "allows employees to opt out of abortion, sterilization, cloning, or human embryonic stem cell research, but would require those procedures to be performed if the life of the patient was at stake."
