U.S. NRC Offers Science and Technology Agenda for the Environment

A new report from the U.S. National Research Council (NRC) asserts a possible science and technology agenda for the environment based on input from a range of volunteers of the interested public and representatives from industry, government, academia, environmental organizations, and native American communities. The report includes six recommendations to policymakers: Use social science and risk assessment to guide decision-making. Monitor environmental changes in a more thorough, consistent, and coordinated manner. Reduce the adverse impacts of chemicals in the environment. Move away from fossil fuel usage. Adopt an environmental approach to engineering that reduces the use of resources.
