German plastics industry in the ascendant

The business development in the German plastics industry surpassed the expectations by far in the second half of 2009 and the sector is assuming better business for the first half of 2010 as well.The majority of the companies are confident that this upward trend will stabilise by the middle of the year at the latest and will lead to a steady recovery phase. However, a return to the pre- crisis level is expected for 2011 at the earliest.The "Kl - Kunststoff Information" sectoral service reports this as the result of its 18th survey about the economic situation in the plastics industry. The reversal of the economic trend was already emerging in the middle of 2009. At that time, two thirds of the companies were still reporting worse business in the first half of the year but the expectations for the second half of the year were already optimistic: 42 % were assuming a positive development and 40 % an at least unchanged development. However, the business in this period actually went even better for 60 % of the companies and was unchanged for 27 %. The unexpectedly positive development relates not only to inland business but also to exports. Moreover, hardly any deviations are shown between the individual subsectors.
