Laborelec developed a simulator that mimics all aspects of a conventional 300 MWe power plant, covering both the thermal aspects as well as the effect of the electricity network. The simulator is made up of two computer models. The first describes the dynamic behaviour of a boiler of 750 MWth with forced circulation and its principal control loops. The second covers the electric network with its means of production. These sets are programmed in different data-processing equipments. According to the objectives of the training, they can work in an autonomous way or can be coupled via a data-processing network. The simulator will be used to train new staff members for power plants, and to investigate the consequences of modifications to the computer systems that control a power plant. In this way costly training courses or tests in the power plant itself can be avoided.
