Rook polynomials on two-dimensional surfaces and graceful labellings of graphs

By a simple trick we may generalise the rook polynomial for an n×n chessboard to various two-dimensional surfaces, the conventional chessboard corresponding to the torus. In the case of the M?bius band and the Klein bottle, there is a close connection to graceful labellings of graphs.
