No matter how meticulously we plan and plot our lives, if we survive long enough, we will come to realize that our precious lives have been, almost entirely, shaped and sharpened by the wild winds of coincidence. We are the products of our times, places, genes, and happenstances, all of which are naught but coincidences beyond our control. However, forging opportunities out of happenstances is within our power and those forged opportunities might vouchsafe us novel means to reshape our otherwise immutable destinies. "While we speak, envious time will have already fled: carpe deim, seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the next day," urges Ovid in his Odes. Balance that with Louis Pasteur's adage, "In the fields of observation, coincidence does not favor except the prepared minds, " and one can begin to apprehend the intricate clockworks of destiny.
