Anew NDT technology uses the interaction of evanescent microwaves with the material being tested. By interacting with the dielectric or magnetic properties of composite materials, this technology allows a deeper penetration into the material than with standard techniques, including ultrasound and radiography. The evanescent microwaves cover higher spatial frequencies than plane waves, making it possible to detect and characterize small internal defects in the composite materials being inspected. The new technology requires no contact between the probe and the material being examined, enabling contact-free measurements.
