Since the early days, the mineral water industry has worked hard to improve the quality of its bottle, a key element of its product. This evolution has indeed showcased major innovations but has mainly consisted of a substitution of material over time. The French word "bouteille" comes from the old word "boutiaux", used to indicate the leather flask strapped to the horse saddle. But at the very beginning, the water recipients were made of clay. In the 19th century, the first natural mineral waters were carried on horseback carriages in wooden crates protected with straw.
