Japan Electric Furnaces Supply More Structural Steel under Tight Supply

Japanese electric furnace based carbon steel makers increase shipment of structural steel bar for distributors when special steel makers reduce the supply to ship more for automobile and other major users. Godo Steel increases the domestic sales of structural steel by around 40 percent to more than 20,000 tonnes per month compared with the beginning of 2004 while Asahi Industries increased the sales of mechanical structural carbon steel to 2-3 times at 7,000 tonnes. The electric furnaces serve for lower grade market while special steels ship higher-grade products.
