METI and MOE Release Electric Appliance Recycling Report

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and The Ministry of Environment released a report on the operating status of the home electric appliance recycling act. Four items -TV sets, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners - brought to designated collecting stations nationwide in December 2001 totaled 870,000 units and the aggregate of nine months from April through December reached 6.69 million units. Units moved from the collecting stations to recycling facilities came to some 800,000 units in December and about 6.47 million for the nine months.
