Blast Furnace Steelmakers Shift Steel Exports to Southeast Asia and the US

Along with the expectations that steel exports from Nippon Steel, NKK, and other blast furnace steelmakers in the July to September quarter will drop sharply, it is appearing more and more likely that the steelmakers will review their production plans and their export plans for the upcoming quarter. Steelmakers are now planning to shift exports from China and to the large Southeast Asia market and also the United States where the supply and demand balance is tight. Due to the breakdown in talks between the blast furnace steelmakers and the China National Metals & Minerals Industry Corporation for shipments of ordinary steel products in the second half of this year, it is likely that shipments to China in August will drop sharply and may even be skipped, following exports of 23,000 tons in July.
