As a whole, the oil and gas industry struggles to adopt technology at a fast pace, and as a result we spend years operating inefficiently, waiting for commodity prices to justify taking risks. Eventually we adopt the technology, but along the way we destroy its value. For example, today a fracture stimulation technology revolution has taken place, which has led to a resource play global expansion. However, most of these technologies were available 10 years ago, but the drive was not there. The country suffered through unnecessarily excessive energy costs and the industry through less than optimal returns.
