Bayer MaterialScience has received the permit for the expansion and operation of its hydrochloric acid facility in Dormagen, Germany. The company had been waiting for a detailed appraisal by the Cologne district authority before moving ahead. Now, Bayer will launch the European-wide marketing of hydrochloric acid, which occurs as a byproduct of the production of polyurethane raw materials. The volume of hydrochloric acid will increase as Bayer completes a toluene diisocyanate (TDI) plant that is currently under construction.
