On January, 1,2013, the U.S. House of Representatives approved new legislation, the Foreign Economic Espionage Penalty Enhancement Act of 2012 (H.R. 6029), which addresses the enforcement of U.S. intellectual property laws. Passage of this legislation will ensure that the penalties under the Economic Espionage Act correctly take into account the harm inflicted on U.S. companies that have had intellectual property stolen by individuals acting on fhe House action followed the behalf of a foreign government. The House action followed the passage of legislation by the Senate on December 19,2012.
