Mechanism of the Occurrence of Earthquakes and Tsunamis

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Good morning, everybody. Two years ago, at the end of 2004, a great earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 happened near the south tip of Sumatra Island, Indonesia, Due to this earthquake, a great tsunami happened, and in total, nearly 250,000 people were killed. This is the biggest tsunami event in our history. Today I will give a lecture on the mechanisms of the generation of earthquakes and tsunamis, and then we will consider how to survive from these natural disasters. The first slide please.
