Fighting the Cole with Coatings

Swiss collaboration between specialty chemicals company Ciariant, the ZHAW School of Engineering, the GEBERT RUF STIFTUNG, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), and RETC Renewable Energy Technology Center GmbH (a joint venture between wind power REpower Systems AG and Suzlon Energy Ltd.), reports progress in developing three types of coatings for protection of surfaces from ice buildup in cold environments. Initial tests have been positive, and the groups anticipate applications for the new coatings in wind energy, aerospace, refriger-ation, automotive, and many other sectors.
