Germany’s Lufthansa used a 10% blend of farnesene biofuel on its LH 190 scheduled flight from Frankfurt to Berlin on Sep. 15, the same day it signed a memorandum of understanding with German-based JatroSolutions to develop commercial jatropha biofuel. Flight LH 190 was the first time farnesene — a sugar-based bio-kerosene developed jointly by French oil company Total and US biotech company Amyris — has been used commercially in Europe.
