North American jet fuel usage held steady in July after rising by just 0.6% in the second quarter above year-earlier rates. The big US market dominated regional trends, with a downturn on the West Coast offsetting most of the demand gains on the East and Gulf coasts. The sharp drop in Canadian usage moderated in July as consumption stabilized around the 104,000 b/d mark following a doubledigit decline in the second quarter. Peak tourist arrivals pushed up Mexican demand further to 70,000 b/d — some 11% higher than yearago rates.
