New Indian Refineries to Boost Jet Fuel Exports From 2015

Oil product exports from India, including jet fuel, are poised to jump in the second half of next year, lifted by an upcoming wave of refinery expansions that could see 420,000 barrels per day of new capacity come on line in 2015. Looking forward to 2018, India’s current refining capacity of 4.3 million b/d could rise by 46% to 6.3 million b/d. India exported a record 5.77 million metric tons (125,400 b/d) of jet fuel last year, according to the government’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, but volumes have dropped sharply so far this year. Jet exports fell 17% to 98,900 b/d in the eight months to end-August as lower refinery runs trimmed jet fuel yields and domestic consumption posted gains. Demand is showing a year-on-year rise of some 4% as India’s airline sector recovers from financial troubles and the currency crisis in 2013 (JFI Jul.7’14).
