August saw a sharp jump in Japanese jet fuel use with demand up 2.5% versus last year at 219,000 b/d — a near-18% increase in July. Demand for bonded fuel used on international flights was up by more than 9% on the year. A parallel recovery in domestic refining saw utilization rates up to 83% — their highest level since the March catastrophe. Jet fuel output climbed to 317,000 b/d, with 100,000 b/d channeled into export markets.
