North American jet fuel consumption picked up momentum in March, climbing by 6.4% above the year-earlier month to some 1.7 million barrels per day. That brought first-quarter growth rates up to 3.7%. The big US market scored a gain of nearly 7% in March amid robust fuel usage at airports on the East and West Coasts. Major carriers increased fuel liftings slightly to 1.1 million b/d as they added capacity. Strong tourist arrivals boosted Mexican demand by 8% in March to around 71,000 b/d, while Canadian fuel needs headed lower.
