Political Crisis Devastates Ukrainian Jet Fuel Market

Ukraine’s jet fuel market has been hit by a perfect storm, with the military and economic crisis leading to a sharp drop in jet fuel consumption at a time when a cartel-like situation among the country’s traders has triggered a prohibitive price increase at its airports. Jet fuel imports account for about two-thirds of Ukraine’s rapidly dwindling demand. Data from Consulting Group A-95, an independent Kiev-based firm, show imports have fallen steadily and dipped to just 16,000 metric tons in September.
