How Refinery Closures May Ease European Diesel Crunch

More refinery closures could ultimately help ease Europe’s mounting diesel supply crunch by boosting the number of import terminals in the region able to handle up to 120,000 metric ton tankers from Asia- Pacific. At the moment, Europe’s lifeblood diesel imports, like jet fuel, are severely constrained by a lack of deepwater ports able to handle the 75,000-120,000 ton long range 2 tankers (LR2s) needed to make it cost-effective to bring fuel all the way from Singapore and South Korea (JFI Aug.20).
