By late summer, North American jet fuel consumption reversed the shrinkage seen in the second quarter. Demand in the US, Canada and Mexico climbed by 0.8% in August, with a 2.5% gain in the big US market partially offset by a steep drop in Canadian usage. Liftings among major US carriers climbed by 4.4% in August as airlines cautiously added back capacity. Mexican consumption staged a strong recovery as tourism rebounded, climbing by 11% in August after falling by a similar percentage in the second quarter.
