Lower eyelid retraction as a rare complication of maxillary sinusitis after open reduction of a blowout fracture.

Most lower eyelid retractions are due to myogenic or mechanical complications. These causes, including thyroid-associated orbitopathy, surgery of the lower eyelid or extraocular muscles, trauma, and scars, result in shortening of the posterior lamella or retractor in the lower eyelid. Although one case of eyelid necrosis with maxillary sinusitis has been reported, there have been no reports so far of lower eyelid retraction caused by maxillary sinusitis. We report a case of eyelid retraction in a patient who had maxillary sinusitis many years after open reduction of a blowout fracture.
