Mitsubishi Rayon will construct an additional 2,700-t/y carbonization plant at its Otake production center by investing about ￥12 bn(100 mn).Operational startup is set for the fourth quarter of 2009.The new plant will be the company's second addition in Japan,after the first one at its Toyohashi factory.With the new plant,the intention is to reduce the investment risk and material transport cost because carbon-fiber precursor(acrylic fiber)is already being manufactured at the Otake factory.
