A research group at Kyushu University's Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences led by lecturer Shigeru Fujino has developed a manufacturing process for transparent quartz glass based on a powder sintering process.A slurry of high-purity quartz glass powder is molded using a slip casting process,followed by vacuum sintering at a "low temperature" of 1,500degC.A prototype 2 mm in thickness exhibits 76% transmissivity at the wavelength of an F_2 laser (157 nm).
