Teijin and DuPont Announce Plans to Dissolve Nylon JV

Teijin Ltd. and DuPont K.K. announced on October 15 that the two companies have come to an agreement to dissolve their 50:50 joint venture Teijin DuPont Nylon K.K (TDN, headquartered in Osaka). In the past 5 years, the recession in the construction industry has negatively affected the demand for nylon in carpets while demand in the apparel industry was affected by the mill base shifting to offshore locations and changes in consumer preferences. As a result the market in Japan continued to shrink, and the partners thus judged it would be difficult to continue operations at the joint venture.
