Jointly with Mitsui Chemicals Kanebo has developed a cosmetic ingredient possessing from several times to ten thousand times the whitening effect of previous substances. The constituent is extracted from a taro of South American origin, and exhibits high tyrosinase activity inhibiting effect, and by retarding maturation of melanosomes, the small organs enveloping melanin, the cause of freckles and blemishes, it whitens the skin.
