Bankrupt US coal producer, Patriot Coal Corp., has achieved a number of key milestones in its journey back to financial health with the announcement of a new financial backer and the settlement of outstanding legal cases with Peabody Energy and Arch Coal. Under the agreement with Knighthead Capital Management LLC, Patriot will receive US$ 250 million via a new rights issue backstopped by the New York based investment advisor.
