Frontier markets are generally defined as new, underdeveloped territories where the mining industrydoes not yet have a foothold. However, the definition of frontier can be broadened to include more developed territories where the expansion of the coal mining sector is dependent on the development of infrastructure through particularly challenging terrain. Frontier markets are rapidly moving to the forefront of investment destinations for the coal mining sector, as the constant demand to find new resources pushes companies into more challenging territories.
